Open water for businesses
From 1 April 2017 most businesses can buy supply and waste water services from any regional provider. Water retailers are keen to attract new business and competition is high. The switching process takes about a month; further information is available from Open Water.
New rules. On 1 April 2017 some important changes were made to the retail water market. From that date, most businesses are no longer restricted to buying water services from their regional water company. Instead, they are able to choose which company they want to provide their supply and waste water services and you can have a different company for each one if you wish, e.g. because it's cheaper. Water retailers are all keen to attract new business and competition is high, so this is definitely something to consider.
Switching. In order to switch you will need to determine your water usage, check your current deal and what's now available, agree a new contract and make your choice (you will be given a cooling off period). You can approach individual water retailers or use a comparison website. Detailed information about the switching process is available via the official Open Water website (see the next step).
Tip. The switching process takes around a month and is carried out by the new retailer.
